Current Style Obsessions: It-Girl Style

Over on my Tiktok the past few weeks I have gotten pretty caught up in the aesthetic of it all. Strawberry girl, vanilla girl, clean girl, cherry girl - you name it, I made content for it. It was very fun at first, and I am not averse to shopping based on an aesthetic now and again, however, I felt like I needed to cleanse my palette and get back to my core personal style. Thus, I decided to go down my usual Pinterest rabbit hole to find pieces and styling choices that appeal to me personally and write about them. Thus, without further ado, here are my current style obsessions.

Dior Silhouette Dresses

As someone who used to dress in a lot of kitschy or maybe even sometimes grungy pieces as a teenager, coming into my twenties I have found myself gravitating to a lot more classic styles. My latest obsession with this variety has been the classic Dior silhouette, sometimes bordering on a slight drop waist. For those who are unfamiliar with the Dior silhouette, it is a shape popularized by the French fashion house. The silhouette is characterized by rounded shoulders, a cinched waist, and a very full skirt. My current obsession has been a variation of this design which is a lot more paired down than most of Dior's designs, and with a waist that sometimes sits slightly lower. Here is an example of the type of dress I have been loving lately.

This styling is just perfection to me and excellently emulates the simplistic cool girl style that we have been seeing on many celebs lately. The dress has a traditionally classy and dressed-up silhouette but in a very paired-down fabric which makes for a very interesting dichotomy in the look. The styling of the dress just goes to emphasize this. The shoes and hairstyle are also traditionally classy and almost preppy, however are also very masculine. This in a way contrasts with the very feminine dress. Adding stocking-style socks and a baguette bag add a modern twist which also contrasts with the very classic silhouette of the garment. Overall the look has many contrasting pieces that shouldn't work but somehow do. This type of look is something I can see Zoe Kravitz or Taylor Russell wearing.

I managed to find this exact dress. It is by the brand Unknown Source and retails for $72 in many different colours. Adding this to my Christmas wish list immediately. If I am so lucky as to have a Euro summer anytime soon, this dress or something similar certainly will be coming with me.

Here are some other examples for this type of dress. Hopefully they spark an obsession in you too.

Grey 'Wool'

I have already wrote about my current obsession with wool on likely multiple previous blogs. But I won't be silenced. I. Love. It. The most recent iteration that I have discovered is this almost corset style boat neck top that is so fabulous. House of CB does a variation of it but I believe the first iteration of this came from Cafe Forgot. Both are gorgeous. I also like the same sort of style in dresses and other style tops. I don't think they are all actually wool, hence the quotes around this subtitle, however, the illusion is a work-wear type wool-ish fabric.

The easiest way to style something like this would obviously be as a matching set. I think another really cool way to wear it would be with other grey pieces of similar fabrics but different shades. For example, pair the above top with a pair of darker grey workwear trousers, a grey handkerchief tied around the neck stewardess style, and a calf length pair of grey boots.

Barely Sheer Tops

I may be late to the trend with this one but I love how simplistic yet fun these long sleeve barely sheer tops are. They remind me of the the mesh sparkly long sleeves that were everything circa 2016. I distinctly remember having one from Brandy Melville with a lettuce hem and going to see the band Bastille in it. You couldn't tell me I wasn't the one. Maybe that is part of the reason why I am so into this new variation of the trend since I find them very nostalgic.

I think these tops are a great way to spice up an outfit while also maintaining a classic and neutral aesthetic. They are also quite classy in that they aren't as sheer as those we have seen trending previously and darker colours just barely show your bra underneath. As someone with a larger bust, I appreciate this. I can wear one of these tops out in a setting that isn't the bar and not feel too exposed. The most famous piece like this, at least on Tiktok, is the Intimissimi cashmere long sleeve. I want it in black and navy but they have many colours to suit your own personal tastes.

Leopard is the New Black

Perhaps its because of the Dolce & Gabbana renaissance that has been happening or the rock star girlfriend aesthetic, but something about leopard and cheetah print has been calling my name latley. What I once considered to be a tacky fabric now comes across as expensive and extremely sexy. My favourite way to wear it is with a simple outfit as a replacement for what would usually be a safe black piece. For example, rather than pairing a black pointed toe pump with an outfit, make them leopard print. Rather than having a lacy black bra peeping out from under your LBD, make it leopard print. Instead of wearing a black jean, hey guess what, make it leopard print. This might not be for everyone, but its' one of my current obsessions.

Bow Details

The last of my style obsessions at the moment is bow details. From blouses, to purses, to dresses, I am loving a bow right now. I was into bows with the whole ballet core trend but I am also loving this new iteration of mainly subtle bow details that are built right into garments. I also find that this trend is popular in shoes, mainly in kitten heels and ballet flats.

I also really love the idea of pairing black dainty bows with pale baby blue, referential to Alice in Wonderland. This isn't something that I see all that often nowadays but perhaps we will in the future if this trend progresses.

That's all of my current obsessions that I have to share with you today. if there is something specific that you would like me to write about neck please leave a comment and subscribe to know when I post.
